Vegetable is a pedagogic installation which has for goal to increase the awareness to vegetables seasonality and growing timetables.
The installation consists of a long table, eight planting boxes and eight series of illustrated plates; each serie corresponding to a vegetable’s variety and each plate to a growth stage of this same variety. The participants are invited to choose a vegetable and find the plates related to. Once all the plates are gathered, they can start stacking them, from the seed to the edible vegetable. They have to pay attention, according to given documents, to the start of cultivation date and culturation duration (by including time-cubes symbolizing two weeks) but also to essential gardening gestures, water needs and climatic conditions. At the end of the game, all the stacks and their various heights (short for tomatoes, especially high for leek…) can be read as a vertical growth calendar.
This installation can be reactivated by Racines carrées in other contexts.
